Haus of Codec to Mark Three Years of Operation at Annual Fundraiser
Providence, RI – September 16, 2024 – October 5th 2024 Haus of Codec invites the Rhode island and Greater New England community to join, donate or sponsor us in celebrating our 3rd year anniversary in operations of providing services to LGBTQ youth ages 18 to 24 with housing needs and access to care and essential services.
The Living Colors Fundraiser will be hosted at Farm Fresh Rhode Island from 5 pm to 9 pm at. The event will raise funds to provide emergency housing services to LGBTQQIA+ Youth (Ages 18 - 24) in Rhode Island and the development of three housing programs: The Haus of Codec Emergency Shelter New Horizons, their Transitional Housing Facility and their Rapid Rehousing program. Since the organization’s inception, Haus of Codec has supported over 60 youth and has provided more than $300,000.00 in rental support to ensure youth remain housed.
In 2023 the Rhode Island Coalition to end Homelessness counted “142 persons were youth, what we call transitional age, to ages 18 to 24 years old.” but this is not an accurate representation of transitional-age youth who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Haus of Codec has served over 70+ youth in 3 years since opening our 6 bed emergency shelter all self identifying somewhere in the LGBTQ+.
"Ever since starting this mission of ensuring an end to youth homelessness I knew that the road would not be easy." said Julio E. Berroa, Haus of Codec’s executive director. “As someone with lived experience of homelessness, Haus of Codec is what my younger self would have needed, a safe space to grow, make mistakes, be around others that are like me, being connected to health care, mental health services and jobs but most importantly being guided to my own means of permanent housing. Haus of Codec needs your support to ensure that youth between the ages of 18 to 24 have access to all of these resources and even more”
This year's event promises to be an evening of inspiration and entertainment and will provide Haus of Codec an opportunity to honor community members and partners who have made their work possible this year.
